Sunflower Baby - Free Crochet Pattern

 

Pattern Description: To crochet this cute Sunflower Baby I've used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 and a 2.5mm hook. The pattern is worked in continuous rounds, unless otherwise stated. I hope you enjoy this free pattern.

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

inc – single crochet increase

dec – single crochet decrease

hdc – half double crochet

dc- double crochet

tr – treble crochet

bs – bobble stitch

ch – chain

st(s) – stitch(es) 

Materials:

  • Cotton yarn – Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in Sunny Yellow (055) and Dark Green (022)
  • 2.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Black embroidery thread (for eye details)

     

    Head

    Add stuffing as you work.

    Rnd 1: sc 6 in a magic ring (6 sts)

    Rnd 2: inc in each st (12 sts)

    Rnd 3: (sc, inc) repeat around (18 sts)

    Rnd 4: sc, (inc, sc 2) x5, inc, sc (24 sts)

    Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) repeat around (30 sts)

    Rnd 6: sc 2, (inc, sc 4) x5, inc, sc 2 (36 sts)

    Rnd 7: (sc 5, inc) repeat around (42 sts)

    Rnd 8: sc 3, (inc, sc 6) x5, inc, sc 3 (48 sts)

    Rnd 9: (sc 7, inc) repeat around (54 sts)

    Rnd 10: sc 24, skip 6 sts, sc 24 (48 sts)

    Rnd 11 – 12: sc in each st (2 rnds) (48 sts)

    Pinch the 6 skipped sts on the inside of the head, and sew the gap with a sewing needle.

    Rnd 13: sc 24, bs, sc 23 (48 sts)

    Rnd 14 – 20: sc in each st (7 rnds) (48 sts)

    Rnd 21: sc 3, (dec, sc 6) x5, dec, sc 3 (42 sts)

    Rnd 22: (sc 5, dec) repeat around (36 sts)

    Rnd 23: sc 2, (dec, sc 4) x5, dec, sc 2 (30 sts)

    Rnd 24: (sc 3, dec) repeat around (24 sts)

    Rnd 25: sc, (dec, sc 2) x5, dec, sc (18 sts)

    Rnd 26: (sc, dec) repeat around (12 sts)

    Rnd 27: dec around (6 sts)

    Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Sew the tail through the front loops of the last 6 sts, and pull tight to close.

    Petals (Make 9)

    Do not add stuffing.

    Rnd 1: sc 6 in a magic ring (6 sts)

    Rnd 2: sc in each st (6 sts)

    Rnd 3: (sc, inc) repeat around (9 sts)

    Rnd 4: sc in each st (9 sts)

    Rnd 5: sc, (inc, sc 2) x2, inc, sc (12 sts)

    Rnd 6: (sc, inc) repeat around (18 sts)

    Rnd 7 – 9: sc in each st (3 rnds) (18 sts)

    Rnd 10: (sc, dec) repeat around (12 sts)

    Do not fasten off the last petal made. Pinch the opening flat, and sc 6 across. Working your hook through the stitches on both sides. Pick up another petal and sc 6 across the opening in the same manner. Continue with the remaining petals until all 9 are joined in a line. Leave an extra-long tail of yarn for sewing.

     

    Body

    Add stuffing as you work.

    Rnd 1: sc 6 in a magic ring (6 sts)

    Rnd 2: inc in each st (12 sts)

    Rnd 3: (sc, inc) repeat around (18 sts)

    Rnd 4: sc, (inc, sc 2) x5, inc, sc (24 sts)

    Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) repeat around (30 sts)

    Rnd 6: sc 2, (inc, sc 4) x5, inc, sc 2 (36 sts)

    Rnd 7: (sc 5, inc) repeat around (42 sts)

    Rnd 8: sc 3, (inc, sc 6) x5, inc, sc 3 (48 sts)

    Rnd 9 – 14: sc in each st (6 rnds) (48 sts)

    Rnd 15: sc 15, (dec, sc) x6, sc 15 (42 sts)

    Rnd 16 – 17: sc in each st (2 rnds) (42 sts)

    Rnd 18: (sc 5, dec) repeat around (36 sts)

    Rnd 19 – 20: sc in each st (2 rnds) (36 sts)

    Arms (Make 2)

    Add stuffing as you work.

    Rnd 3 – 15: sc in each st (13 rnds) (9 sts)

    Rnd 16: (sc, dec) repeat around (6 sts)

    Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Sew the tail through the front loops of the last 6 sts, and pull tight to close.

     

    Legs (Make 2)

    Add stuffing as you work.

    Rnd 1: ch 5, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, 3 sc in last ch, (work opposite side of chs) sc 3 (10 sts)

    Rnd 2: inc x2, sc 2, inc x3, sc 2, inc (16 sts)

    Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x2, sc 2, (sc, inc) x3, sc 3, inc (22 sts)

    Rnd 4 – 5: sc in each st (2 rnds) (22 sts)

    Rnd 6: sc 9, dec x4, sc 5 (18 sts)

    Rnd 7: sc 8, dec x3, sc 4 (15 sts)

    Rnd 8 – 9: sc in each st (2 rnds) (15 sts)

    Rnd 10: sc, (inc, sc 2) x4, inc, sc (20 sts)

    Rnd 11: sc in each st (20 sts)

    Rnd 12: (sc 3, inc) repeat around (25 sts)

    Lightly stuff the following rnds.

    Rnd 13 – 15: sc in each st (3 rnds) (25 sts)

    Rnd 16: (sc 3, dec) repeat around (20 sts

    Rnd 17: sc, (dec, sc 2) x4, dec, sc (15 sts)

    Rnd 18: (sc, dec) repeat around (10 sts)

    Rnd 19: dec around (5 sts)

    Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Sew the tail through the front loops of the last 5 sts, and pull tight to close. Flatten the lightly stuffed rounds for sewing to the body.

     

     

    Leaves (Make 2)

    Rnd 1: ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 5, dc 2, hdc, in last ch (sc, ch 2, sc), (work opposite side of chs) hdc, dc 2, tr 5, dc 2, hdc 2, sc, slst in 1st st

    Rnd 2: ch 1, sc in same st, hdc, dc 12, in ch 2 space (dc 2, ch 3 picot, dc 2), dc 12, hdc, sc, slst in 1st ch

    Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn for sewing.

     

    Vines (Make 2)

    Rnd 1: ch 31, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc inc in next ch, (hdc, hdc inc) repeat to the end of the chs

    Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn for sewing.

     

    Assembly

    Start with sewing the head to the body, so the face is on a slight angle upwards. Sew the petals to the head with the middle pedal at the top of the head. 

    Sew the flattened sections of the legs to the body. Starting from round 7, and working your way up to round 13 of the body.

    Sew the arms to the sides of the body over rounds 21 and 22.

    Sew the leaves between the last two rounds of the body, directly behind the arms. Then sew the vines underneath the leaves.
