Solstice the Unicorn Pony Mods

I thought Solstice was such a cute Unicorn, why not make a pony version too! And a furrier version just for extra cuteness overload. Be patient though the chenille yarn makes it almost impossible to see your stitches (make sure you count your stitches as you work them) that way you’ll know if you’ve missed one at the end of the round.

 

Materials needed:

·      Bella Baby – Baby Chenille White

·      Bella Baby – Nippers Camel

·      Lion Brand – Go for Faux Pomeranian

·      4Seasons – Marvel 8ply Acrylic Duck Egg and Latte

·      3.5mm crochet hook

·      12mm black eyelash safety eyes

Instructions:

Follow Solstice's pattern using the Chenille White for the main body colour and Nippers Camel for the legs. You don’t need to add the leg frills, or make the horn and star.

I’ve used Go for Faux Pomeranian to create the tail and mane.

For the tail, attach with a slst in the same position as Solstice’s tail. Ch 16, slst into the back of the body, repeat 2 more times. Fasten off.

For the mane, attach with a slst at the back centre of the head. Ch 18, slst 2 rnds up from where you attached, continue to ch 18 and slst into the centre of the head 2 rnds up from the last slst, until you reach the ears. Ch 12, slst in the top of the head in the same position as the last slst, ch 12 again and slst again in to the head next to the ear. Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Use the tail of yarn to pin down the rings of chains you have made

Row 1: ch 13, dc in 4^th ch from hook, *skip 2 chs, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch space*, repeat *to* until the end

Row 2: ch 3, turn, dc in 1^st ch 1 sp, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch 1 sp* repeat *to* for remaining ch 1 sp (last dc, ch 1, dc is in the starting ch 3 sp)

Row 3 – 10: repeat row 2 (8 rows)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Rnd 1: ch 6, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch, (work opposite side of chs) sc 3, inc (12 sts)

Rnd 2: inc, sc 3, inc x3, sc 3, inc x2 (18 sts)

Rnd 3: sc, inc, sc 4, (inc, sc) x3, sc 3, inc, sc, inc (24 sts)

Rnd 4: sc 2, inc, sc 5, (inc, sc 2) x3, sc 3, inc, sc 2, inc (30 sts)

Rnd 5: sc 3, inc, sc 6, (inc, sc 3) x3, sc 3, inc, sc 3, inc (36 sts)

Rnd 6: sc 16, slst in fl of next st, ch 12, slst in 6^th st from hook, slst remaining chs, slst in same fl as first slst (1^st stirrup made), slst in bl of same st, ch 30, slst in bl of 2^nd last st of rnd 5, slst in fl of same st, ch 12, slst in 6^th ch from hook, slst remaining chs, slst in same fl (2^nd stirrup made)

Fasten off, and weave in ends

 

Reins

Marvel 8ply Acrylic – Duck Egg

Row 1: ch 3, hdc in 1^st ch, 8ch 3, hdc in 1^st of 3 chs* repeat *to* 9 more times, slst into 1^st ch to form a ring, repeat the ch 3, hdc in 1^st ch 14 more times. Attach with a slst on the opposite side of the 1^st ring to form the 2^nd ring.

Fasten off, and weave in ends.
