Baby Bear Lovey - Free Crochet Pattern

Hi everyone!

Below is the written instructions for my free Crochet Lovey Bear. He is completely no sew and super quick to make up. Perfect for last minute gifts, socking stuffer, and market prep! 

I also have a full video tutorial on Youtube, which takes you through the full pattern step-by-step.

As this is a no-sew pattern, please follow the instructions in sequence, so you can add the parts as we work through the pattern.

Materials needed:

  • Crochet Hooks - 8mm and 6mm
  • Bernat Blanket yarn - (I've used Sand and Almond)
  • Cotton yarn - Black, White and Grey
  • 14mm safety eyes
  • Polyfil Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Large sewing needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations

MR - Magic ring

Sc - single crochet

Hdc - half double crochet

Dec - single crochet decrease

Hdc dec - half double crochet decrease

Inc - single crochet increase

Hdc inc - half double crochet increase

Ch - chain


TAIL

Main body colour and 8mm hook. No stuffing needed.

Rnd 1: sc 6 MR

Rnd 2: (sc, inc) x3 (9 sts)

Rnd 3: (sc, dec) x3 (6 sts)

Fasten off you tail.

 

LEGS (make two)

Main body Colour and 8mm hook.

Rnd 1: sc 6 MR 

Rnd 2: hdc inc x6 (12 sts)

Rnd 3: hdc in each st (12 sts)

Rnd 4: hdc, hdc dec x4, hdc 2 (8 sts)

Add a small amount of stuffing.

Rnd 5: hdc dec x4 (4 sts)

Fasten off you leg.

 

ARMS (make two)

Main body colour and 8mm hook.

Rnd 1: sc 6 MR

Rnd 2: (hdc, hdc inc) x3 (9 sts)

Rnd 3: hdc in each st (9 sts)

Rnd 4: hdc, hdc dec x3, hdc 2 (6 sts)

Rnd 5: hdc in each st (6 sts)

Add a small amount of stuffing.

Rnd 6: (hdc, hdc dec) x2 (4 sts)

Hdc 1 extra st. Flatten opening and sc 2 across the top, working hook through both sides of the opening. Fasten off your arm.

 

BODY

Main body colour and 8mm hook.

Rnd 1: sc 6 MR

Rnd 2: hdc inc x6 (12 sts)

We will start to join the tail in the end of the next rnd.

Rnd 3: (hdc, hdc inc) x5, hdc, hdc in last st, hdc with last tail st to complete the last inc of the rnd (18 sts)

We will join the legs in the next rnd.

Rnd 4: hdc 2 with next 2 tail sts, hdc 2, hdc next 2 sts with a leg (make sure decs of leg are facing the front of the body), hdc 6, hdc next 2 sts with remaining leg, hdc 3, hdc with next tail st (18 sts)

Rnd 5: hdc next 2 sts with the 2 remaining tail sts, hdc 16 (18 sts)

Rnd 6: (hdc 4, hdc dec) x3 (15 sts)

Rnd 7: (hdc 3, hdc dec) x3 (12 sts)

Rnd 8: hdc 6, hdc dec x2, hdc 2 (10 sts)

We will join the arms in the next rnd. Add a small amount of stuffing.

Rnd 9: hdc dec x2, hdc, hdc next 2 sts with an arm ( are sure the decs are facing the front of the body), hdc, hdc next 2 sts with remaining arm (8 sts)

Rnd 10: (hdc 2, hdc dec) x2 (6 sts)

Fasten off your body.

 

EARS (make two)

Main body colour and 6mm hook.

Row 1: sc 6 MR

Row 2: ch 1, turn, (sc, inc) x3 (9 sts)

Fasten off your ear.

 

HEAD

Nose colour and 6mm hook.

Rnd 1: sc 6 MR

Rnd 2: inc in each st (12 sts)

Rnd 3: (sc 3, inc) x3 (15 sts)

Change to main body colour.

Rnd 4: sc 5, inc x6, sc 4 (21 sts)

Rnd 5: sc 5, (sc, inc) x6, sc 4 (27 sts)

Rnd 6: sc in each st (27 sts)

We will start joining the body in the next rnd.

Rnd 7: sc next 3 sts with the last 3 sts of the body (make sure the head is facing the front of the body) sc 24 (27 sts)

We will join the ears in the next rnd.

Rnd 8: skip next 3 head sts, sc 3 remaining body sts, sc 5, sc next 4 sts with an ear (working evenly along the bottom of the ear), sc 6, sc next 4 sts with the remaining ear, sc 5 (27 sts)

Rnd 9: sc in each st (27 sts)

Rnd 10: sc 4, dec, (sc 8, dec) x2, sc (24 sts)

Add safety eyes between rnd 5 and 6. Start adding your stuffing.

Rnd 11: (sc 2, dec) x6 (18 sts)

Rnd 12: (sc, dec) x6 (12 sts)

Rnd 13: dec x6 (6 sts)

Fasten off your head, leaving a tail of yarn. Weave tail through the front loops of the last 6 sts, and pull tight to close.

 

FINISHING DETAILS

Using your black and white yarn, sew the eye details. Using the brown yarn, embroider the nose over Rnd 1. Checkout the Youtube tutorial for full details.
